La Dernière Crépuscule — The Last Twilight

This photograph was taken somewhere in Paris, around 19th arrondissement. It was November 2 2015, just before the nightfall came up and say hi.

From the angle, I tried to put multiple elements (city landmarks and other objects) into a single frame composition (with a 33mm focal length on an APS-C body).

It was early autumn, and the weather was great. See, there were no single cloud!

Il fait beau! — As the locals said.

What a day.

Highlighted Object #1 — The Eiffel Tower

On the far-left side of the photo is the famous Eiffel Tower.

She’s noticeable from almost anywhere since Paris is remarkably known as a flat city. There aren’t much of tall buildings, while she’s standing alone at a 300 meters tall.

If you still don’t get what I’m trying to say, this photo might be able to visualize how well she stands out from the crowd.

Pretty flat isn’t it? This is why we can literally see her from almost everywhere (as long as you have the high ground).

Highlighted Object #2 — Basilica Sacre Cœur

On the right side, the building is also one of the must-visit landmarks in Paris, known as Basilica Sacre Cœur. It is located on the summit of a hill area called Montmartre, which is primarily known for its artistic history.

Highlighted Object #3 — Light Trails & Dramatic Skies

Do you notice the light trails that are spanning horizontally? It was the trains that were coming and leaving Gare de l’Est — which literally means East Train Station.

Those light trails were actually my primary objective that day. I let the shutter open for 30 seconds at aperture setting f/8 and was sticking to the lowest ISO (of course!) which is 100.

What I didn’t realize was that — thanks to the long exposure setup — the skies turned out to be dramatic that it wrapped up that evening beautifully.

La Dernière Crépuscule — The Last Twilight

It was named after the last day in October 2015, since I had to say goodbye — for good — to this place on the next day.

For me, a photograph isn’t merely a photo. The lens is capable to capture not only the light, but also your emotions.

Don’t you agree?

Photography is all about light, composition, and most importantly, emotion
